Our first stop in Switzerland was historic Bern, the de facto country capital and UNESCO world heritage centre. After a short and easy train ride from the Zurich airport, we checked into the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & The Spa. After a long flight, I was eager to get settled in and was pleasantly surprised by the upgraded room that we were offered. The front desk was very helpful with maps and restaurant recommendations.

Our room was on the top 6th floor, with a view of the Federal Palace of Switzerland. The room layout offered plenty of storage space for luggage and navigating around the room. The bathroom had both a shower with a lovely rainfall shower head and a bathtub. The provided toiletries were from Bulgari’s Eau Parfumée au thé blanc line, a heavenly scent, which gave the whole room a relaxed, spa-like atmosphere.

One of my favorite amenities in European hotels is the Nespresso machine (which are so much better than Keurig, in my opinion). How nice is it to roll out of bed and have an espresso before getting dressed? The minibar was fully stocked and complimentary, which made our mornings and evenings spent in the room so much better!

One of the first items on my agenda was to book a full body massage at the spa. If you stay at the Hotel Schweizerhof, you must spend some time at their tranquil spa. They offer spa services including various massages and facials, and have both Swedish and Finnish saunas in addition to the hot and cold pools. I spent a couple of hours there the afternoon after my snowboarding adventure on Mount Titlis, and had the most relaxing massage after a trip to the steam room.
We ate at the hotel many times during our stay. The first meal we had was actually at the lobby lounge. We found a love seat next to a bookshelf and had a nice meal while people watching in the lounge.

The best-known restaurant in the hotel is Jack’s Brasserie, which is adjacent to the hotel itself. Jack’s is where breakfast is served every morning. It is also known for its wienerschnitzel — reportedly the best in Switzerland. Tip: you can get the wienerschnitzel from the lobby lounge, too!
We will definitely return to the Hotel Schweizerhof on our next trip to Bern!
